Clubul Sportiv Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești, commonly known as Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești, is a Romanian professional football club from Târgu Cărbunești, Gorj County, currently competes in the Liga III, the 3rd tier of the Romanian football.
History
In the 2013–14 season, Gilortul, led by Sergiu Găman, won the Liga IV Gorj, but lost the promotion play-off match against Minerul Mehedinți, the champion of Mehedinți County, 0–2 after extra time, on 1 Mai Stadium in Slatina.
Coached by Marius Ionel, Gilortul won the Gorj County championship for the second consecutive season, losing again the promotion play-off to Liga III, 3–11 on aggregate with Cetate Deva, the winner of Liga IV – Hunedoara County.
After won the 2015–16 season of the Liga IV – Gorj County, the white-and-blues missed promotion in the third division for the third time in a row, losing the promotion play-off against Hermannstadt, the champion of Sibiu County. After 0–1 at the Municipal Stadium in Sibiu, the team led by Mihai Dinu lost 1–5 at Târgu Cărbunești.
Il club è stato fondato nel 1948 con il nome di "Flamura Roșie Târgu Cărbunești". Nel 1951 ha cambiato nome in "Energia Târgu Cărbunești" e nel 1957 in "CS Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești".
Il Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești ha raggiunto la massima serie del campionato rumeno di calcio per la prima volta nella stagione 1990-1991. Ha militato nella Liga I per tre stagioni consecutive, retrocedendo in Liga II al termine della stagione 1992-1993.
Il club è tornato in Liga I nella stagione 1996-1997, ma è retrocesso nuovamente in Liga II dopo una sola stagione. Da allora, il Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești non è più riuscito a raggiungere la massima serie del campionato rumeno di calcio.
I colori sociali del Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești sono il bianco e il blu. Lo stadio di casa del club è lo Stadionul Municipal, che ha una capienza di 5.000 spettatori.
Il Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești ha vinto due volte la Coppa di Romania, nel 1994 e nel 1995.
