The Saint Peter's Peacocks women's basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's basketball team that represents Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and plays their home games in Run Baby Run Arena. They are currently led by second-year head coach Jennifer Leedham. The Peacocks have appeared in the NCAA Women's tournament seven times. As with the other women's athletic programs of Saint Peter's University, they were previously known as the Peahens.
History
Saint Peter's University is one of the founding members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), which began play in women's basketball with the 1981–82 season. Since then, the Peacocks have compiled the second most wins of any MAAC women's team and have won the MAAC Women's Championship nine times (1982, 1983, 1984, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002), the second most all-time. Prior to joining the MAAC, the Peacocks competed in the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) from 1971 to 1981 at the Divison II level.
In 2021, led by head coach Marc Mitchell, the Peacocks made a spirited run to the MAAC Championship game after a 19 year absence. They were matched up against their long time MAAC rival, the No. 1 Marist Red Foxes in a bid to win their first MAAC Championship, tenth overall, and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2002. The Red Foxes would go on to defeat the Peacocks 69–30 to win their eleventh MAAC title.
La squadra di basket femminile St. Peter's è stata fondata nel 1973. La squadra ha avuto un certo successo negli anni '80 e '90, raggiungendo i tornei NCAA nel 1989, 1991 e 1997. La squadra è tornata a raggiungere il torneo NCAA nel 2021, sconfiggendo la seconda testa di serie Kentucky al primo turno.
La squadra è allenata da Wendi Stapleton, che è alla guida del programma dal 2016. Stapleton è una ex giocatrice della squadra e ha aiutato la squadra a vincere il campionato MAAC nel 2021.
Le giocatrici più importanti della squadra sono l'attaccante junior Aaliyah Lewis e la guardia senior Kendrea Williams. Lewis è una delle giocatrici più prolifiche della MAAC, mentre Williams è una delle migliori difensori della conferenza.
La squadra di basket femminile St. Peter's è una delle più promettenti della MAAC. La squadra ha ottime possibilità di vincere il campionato della conferenza e raggiungere nuovamente il torneo NCAA.
